Nickel premiums slide to Aug. '09 low as LME sinks

Domestic premiums for melting-grade nickel have fallen to lows last seen in August 2009 as physical demand has slowed and a recent tightness in the briquette market has eased, market participants told AMM. Premiums dropped to between 30 and 50 cents per pound from between 34 and 60 cents per pound previously, even as London Metal Exchange prices sank almost 7 percent Thursday.
