Pacific Steel plan to Install Mont, shredder draws flak

Pacific Steel ft Recycling Inc. is facing opposition from residents on its proposal to invest 10 million dollars to install an auto shredder in Billings, Mont. The planned 3,000-horse-power Texas Shredder unit, if installed, would be the first auto shredder in Montana. The Great Falls, Mont-based recycler has approached the Yellowstone County Zoning Commission seeking its recommendation for approval of a plan to set up an operation on a 16.3-acre site on Neibauer Road. It has outgrown its existing four-acre Fourth Avenue North location, which would be transformed into a nonfer-rous yard after the new shredder is commissioned, Patrick Kons, vice president of scrap processing, told local leaders.
