Digger wasps of the genus Brimocelus (Hymenoptera, Sphecidae, Crabroninae)

The genus Brimocelus Amold 1927 is revised. A lectotype of the type species Belomicrus (Brimocelus) radiatus Amold is designated and two new species are described. Brimocelus roosevelti sp. n. from Cape Province of South Africa differs from B. radiatus in its smaller body size, the presence of narrow white apical spots on abdominal tergites and sternites, and in whitish-yellow pronotal lobes and scapes and ventral parts of flagellomeres. Brimocelus schwartzi sp. n. from Namibia differs from other species of the genus in the concave temples and well developed light coloration of the body (mainly yellowish-white clypeus, scutellum, and postscutellum and reddish abdomen with broad yellow preapical bands). A key to identifying the species is provided.
