US manufacturing sector continues to grow but at a slower rate

U.S. manufacturing expanded in May for the 34th consecutive month but at a slower rate than in April, according to an Institute for Supply Management (ISM) survey. The purchasing managers' index (PMI) fell to 53.5 percent in May, down 1.3 points from the 14-month high recorded in April. A reading above 50 percent indicates that the U.S. manufacturing sector generally is expanding.
