Study on designing communication tool - an approach to user participation design

In the previous report, we introduce the concept of "communication tool" that is an integration of communication aid, users, and user and social environment. In this report we focus upon the use of user participation design method (Participatory Design, PD) in designing a communication tool. We introduce possible definitions of "user", and discuss, for each definition of "user", the function and role of users and other members of a design team of communication tool. We also point out issues to be discussed in the future to develop a design methodology in relation to user centered design (UCD).
