Allowance of electrical storage of medical informations has recently been spreading dramatically in telemedicine. However, because the volume of informations of medical images is so large that it takes so much time to transmit those informations, the significance of telemedicine is not yet properly appreciated. We have been studying the transmission of large-sized medical images between Kagawa, Tokyo, and Hokkaido using JGN, which is a high-speed network of the next generation. CT, MRI, and high-resolution pathological images were taken from a DICOM server by an image viewer, motion pictures of ultrasonography were transmitted in the form of motion JPEG, and high-quality movies were transmitted by DVCPRO-IP with little time-lag. In addition, we have been examining the value of IPv6 in JGN using movie transmission and secure communication
