We study prioritized buffer management schemes with less complexity, such that the capability of the ultrahigh speed packet forwarding can ha achieved in the photonic packet switch. We newly propose the buffer management method, called PBSO (Partial Buffer Sharing with Overwriting), which is applicable to Diffserv (Differentiated Services) AF (Assured Forwarding). PBSO is based on single queue and the complexity is O(p), where p is the number of levels of drop precedence. It is applicable to broadcast-and-selective-based optical buffer and is also applicable to the existing space-switch-based optical buffer with a few additions of optical components. Through simulation study, we show that PBSO strategy provides different levels of drop precedence for DiffServ AF, and that PBSO improves buffer utilization with improvement of packet loss probabilities of both drop-level packets.
