Natural gas is the most efficiently combustible and environmentally sound source of energy among the fossil fuels the energy for the 21st century, and its demand is expected to grow very rapidly. 80% of the world's natural gas transaction is supported by international pipeline transmission mainly located in Europe and north America. The balance 20% is brought by LNG tankers largely for Asian Far East. This paper describes the present situations of natural gas main pipelines in operation, their construction and operation bodies and the selected examples for pipeline construction technology. Moreover, the trend and prospect of deregulation of the world's natural gas industry and its impact on the pipeline operation industry will be briefly described. Pipeline network will be gradually developed in Asia, and the wide range of experiences in advanced countries like Europe and north America will be sure to support its construction.
