With the great advantage of a hydrophobic hollow fiber membrane that allows water refrigerant vapor to pass through but blocks the passage of liquid binary lithium bromide/water solution, both a novel hollow fiber membrane-type generator and solution heat exchanger have introduced to replace the conventional components in vapor absorption refrigeration system for the purpose of an automobile application. This study presents a parametric steady-state simulation model to look into a novel LiBr-water single effect absorption cooling cycle combined with a hollow fiber membrane-type generator and solution heat exchanger. Heat and mass transfer models in vacuum membrane distillation and in direct contact membrane distillation are considered for the membrane-type generator and solution heat exchanger, respectively, and the novel cycle is simulated based on the mass and energy balance to examine the cooling effect and the system performance under various working conditions.
