Uglegrafit association plants conquer the carbon & graphite markets

Integration of leading Russian carbon and graphite sector plants, research institutes and organisations to the Russian Carbon & Graphite Association (Uglegrafit) allowed the implementation of a strategic programme to develop a united Russian economy, with the increase of finished products to meet consumer and world level standards. As a result, the total sales volume of high-quality carbon and graphite products by Association members has grown 18.6 percent in 2004 compared with 2003 and almost by two-thirds compared with 2000. As a result of an initiative from Energoprom, the Russian Carbon & Graphite Association Uglegrafit was established in 2001. The main goals of uniting the producers and research organisations were co-ordination of activity and vertical integration in terms of developing the united electrode sector and attracting investments to modernise production in order to satisfy consumer demands to the maximum and intensify competitiveness of Russian products in this sector of the world market. The founders of the Association were the electrode plants of Novocherkassk, Novosibirsk and Chelyabinsk, JSC 'Sibirsky Anthracite', 'Uglerodprom', Oral Electrode Institute, The Graphite State Research Institute 'NII Grafit' and other enterprises and organisations. Such integration allowed the Russian Uglegrafit Association to become one of the top-three world leaders by volume of production and supplies of carbon graphite products (CGP) in this sector, which has been developing during recent years.
