As electric devices become more compact and lighter, cold- drawn and annealed fine copper wires used in coils for flyback transformers, magnetic heads and so on are becoming finer, recently reaching diameters of 0.04 mm or less. The copper wires must have excellent drawability and good mechanical properties after being annealed. In order to answer these requirements, we have developed new fine copper wire useful as a fine enameled copper wire, which contains a small amount of Sn. This dilute Cu - Sn alloy wire can be fabricated by continuous casting and hot rolling and has many good qualities.
