Statement by JoAnn Mondowney, Candidate for ALA Treasurer

I came into the profession with an interest in finance. I suppose it was only natural that over the past 25 years I served on many of ALA's financial committees. My interest in finance began because of Mrs. Bennett's unit on income taxes in the 7th grade. She was the most creative and enthusiastic math teacher I ever knew. At the end of the unit, each student knew how to complete a simple 1040A tax return. Throughout high school and college, I excelled in courses in business math, bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing. I gained firsthand experience in preparing budgets, forecasting, and tracking expenses and revenues while working in two large department stores in New York City and in Baltimore.
