Most practicing librarians look back on their library school days as an unpleasant but obligatory rite of passage that had to be suffered through in order to obtain the necessary credentials awarding them the privilege of pursuing a career in a profession characterized by low pay, long hours, and a lack of societal respect. In other words, library school was a humiliating exercise that allowed its victims the opportunity to indulge their masochistic tendencies on a lifetime basis. Ask any veteran librarian about his or her library school experience and you will elicit either a pained groan or a sarcastic chuckle.
