Bengtson, director of libraries at the University of Washington in Seattle, began as a member of the National Council on the Humanities advisory board at the National Endowment for the Humanities. * At the Kansas City (Mo.) Public Library, Mary Beveridge has been appointed special collections department manager. She had been coordinator of marketing and customer service at Drake University's Cowles Library in Des Moines. * Candice Brown is manager of adult services at the Arapahoe Library District's Koelbel Public Library in Littleton, Colorado. She had been extension services manager. * After 10 years, David Bucove, director of the Monroe County Public Library in Bloomington, Indiana, has retired. * The new assistantdirector of the Capital Area District Library in Lansing, Michigan, is Nancy Bujold, former head of youth services at the Rochester Hills (Mich.) Public Library. * Robert Burger has been appointed to the newly created position of associate university librarian for services at the Colorado State Library in Denver. He had been head of the Slavic and East European Library. * The new press secretary for the Chicago Public Library is Margot Burke. She had worked for the Chicago-based public affairs firm of Jasculca/Terman and Associates. * Betsy Burson, director of the Arlington (Tex.) Public Library since 1990, will retire May 31. She has worked at libraries in El Paso, Glendale, and Phoenix, Arizona, and for the State Library of Louisiana.
