You'll all have to bear with me one more time. It's January, and that means we Booklist editors have spent the last month or two arguing about better books, best books, and books that were just no damn good. I won some and lost some, like always, buteven in the best of compromises, you inevitably wind up feeling ... well, unfulfilled. That's where "Quick Bibs" comes in. This column is my opportunity to get the last word. Below are the books I had the best time reading during 1994. No criteria exceptmine; no attempt to take the "larger view"-these are my favorites, simply and unapologetically. They aren't all 1994 books, mind you; one was written in the 1300s, and one isn't published yet. Still, I read them in 1994, and in this autocracy, that's all that matters.
