Nutraceutical market and its regulation.

Global markets for nutraceuticals are increasing, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.4%, and are expected to reach USD 176.7 billion in 2013. This article reviews recent developments in the nutraceutical industry, as well as its regulatory control. Aspects considered include: definition of the word "nutraceutical"; examples of nutraceuticals currently on the market; regulatory control in the US and India; reasons for the increasing popularity of nutraceuticals among the American population; global nutraceutical markets; international sources; and market trends in India.
