With the need to protect the ozone layer surrounding the earth, petroleum solvents that are alternatives to CFC 113 have been used for cleaning clothes. Petroleum solvents, however, have serious defects in that they are inflammable and not easy to be dried-up because of its low volatility. For further development of dry cleaning technology, we found that a specified volatile and non-inflammable solvent has available solubility in certain petroleum solvent for dry cleaning. By using skillfully thermophysical properties of two kinds of solvent above, we have established a rapid drying and non-inflammable process for dry cleaning systems. The presented procedures have been adopted in a newly-developed dry cleaning machine.
