DIAMOND-ASSOCIATED MINERALS IN THE MIDDLE-PALEOZOIC CONGLOMERATE-BRECCIA

The paper presents some results of the special study of indicator minerals (pyrope and ilmenite) from probably extrusive conglomerate-breccia found out in the West Russia kimberlite subprovince by geologists of VSEGEI. Grains of ilmenite were investigated with scanning electron microscope and it was shown that they have complicated structure and consist of ilmenite-geikielite nucleus and external armalcolite shell. Treatment of internal structure and surface morphology of ilmenite-armalcolite and pyrope grains allows to make the conclusion about absence of its lateral redeposition in surface condition. The debatable problem of genesis of cuboidal pyropes has been considered also.
