A hierarchical image coding transmission scheme based on region of interest

摘要

In this paper, we propose a hierarchical image coding and transmission system, which based on the EZW coder. The output bitstream of EZW coder can easily divide into some bitplane layers and ROI (Region of Interest) layers. So, in this paper, we divide the output bitstream into three layers: MSB layer, ROI layer and residual layer. Then error correction coding bits are added to each layer according to its significance, to realize the graceful degradation in wireless time varing environment. Simulation results show that the proposed system can achieve higher image quality in subjective grading.
