An analysis of hand gesture of Japanese sign translator and representation of sign animation on screen

Three dimensional movement of hand gesture of a sign translator was measured to improve our sign animation images of Japanese Sign Language (JSL) used for inspecting the stomach of hearing-impaired people by X-ray. Five sign translators who have been gotten the official license in JSL translator expressed twenty-seven sentences of JSL. Results of the measurements showed that 'the differences between our sign animations and sign translators were mainly revealed in speed of hand movement. The refinement of elbow and shoulder movement of sign animation was carried out for making natural animation including the speed of hands.
