摘要

This paper proposes a novel video coding scheme based on seamless combination of overlapped block motion compensation and matching pursuits. The scheme employs an iterative motion compensation method together with a waveform coding method, or matching pursuits. These two methods are tested temporarily in each iteration of the encoding process, and then the efficient one is alternatively carried out. Therefore this iterative coding scheme can appropriately allocate the number of bits to motion compensation and matching pursuits according to a given coding rate. Furthermore, it can provide visually better reconstructed images with less blocking-artifacts by using a kind of overlapped block motion compensation techniques. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme outperforms the H.263 standard in terms of coding efficiency.
