MMWR: Surveillance for violent deaths-national violent death reporting system, 16 states, 2010

This month's MMWR selection (http://www.cdc.gov/ mmwr/preview/mmwrhtmi/ss6301 a1.htm) reviews data from the CDC's National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) and provides a summary of the information collected from 16 states during 2010 (1). The sources of these reports include death certificates, coroner/medical examiner reports, hospital data, and crime laboratory data. The states that contributed to the current report are Alaska, Colorado, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Because these individuals contribute significantly to the potential donor pool, it is important to review the results of this surveillance report.
