Relationship between Varietal Characteristics of NERICA 3 and 8 and Environmental Factorsto introduce those varieties in the Tropical Forest Zone of Cameroon

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had implemented "Upland Rice Development Project of the Tropical Forest Zone in Cameroon (PRODERiP)" with Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Cameroon (MINADER) to extend upland rice varieties tofarmers in the tropical bi-modal rain forest zone of Cameroon over 2011-2016. NERICA 3 and 8, developed by AfricaRice, were tried to distribute in the project because they were selected by farmers through the Participatory Varietal Selection (PVS) conducted by IRAD and AfricaRice and supposed to be early maturity varieties (within 80 to100 days) low altitude conditions (く1000 m above the sea level). However, the growth periods of NERICA varieties, planted in Cameroon, were different from the information of NERICA Passport data. Therefore, in this study, the characteristics in the growth period of early maturing varieties of NERICA 3 and 8 was verified under the different temperature conditions.
