摘要

The rate of biochemical decomposition of organic matter in drained peaty soils was studied on common (black), mixed, and cover farming systems in the Ryazan' oblast, Russia, with a concurrent analysis of hydrothermic conditions. The maximum depletion of peat was observed in the plough horizon for the black system and in the plough and subplough horizons for the mixed system. For the cover system, there were two maxima for the biochemical decomposition of organic matter (in the plough horizon and inthe zone of the open capillary fringe). Sanding (amendment with sand) and cover culture enhance the biochemical depletion of peat. Protection against degradation is associated with control of the groundwater table.
