From June 12th through the 22nd the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) hosted a training workshop on propagation, cultivation, production and sustainable management of bamboo and rattan in southern China. The participants, representing several countries and institutions in southeast Asia and USA, were greeted by Ms. Jin Wei, publications and training officer for INBAR and our very friendly program director. She explained that this workshop was designed to "train the trainer." After graduating from the workshop, all participants would be qualified to conduct training workshops upon return to their perspective areas. The workshop promised to combine both academic instruction and field experience in an effort to convey as much useful information as possible within the short 10-day period.
