A wireless PC card is an important device for the wireless LAN configuration and is used inserted in a PC card slot of a Note PC. The antenna part of the PC card usually sticks out several cm, thus spoiling portability and it is easy to damage. For the existing PC card, there was no device which antenna part does not stick out completely. In order to put the whole antenna part into the PC card slot, it must be a thin shape and the influence of the surrounding must be small. Although the V-pol element (a quarter-wavelength waveguide short circuited at the end of the waveguide) of the miniaturized dual polarization antenna proposed before has low influence from the surrounding and suitable for being built-in a PC card, its frequency bandwidth was narrow. Based on the limitation of the antenna thickness that it must fit into the PC card slot, we achieved a wide bandwidth that suits to the wireless LAN standard (IEEE802.lla) by contriving the antenna structure. Next, we analyzed the antenna characteristics with the condition that it does not sticks out the PC card slot of Note PC, and confirmed also for this condition it is possible to obtain a bandwidth of 100MHz or larger, by contriving the antenna structure. In addition, we show that although the VSWR characteristic does not deteriorate with opening and closing of the LCD when inserting in a PC card slot, it has influenced in the radiation pattern.
