AFTER DEPARTING AMSTERDAM airport at noon on a typical blustery cold November day, I check into my hotel for a good night's rest. I wake to sunny balmy weather and air permeated with tropical perfume. The hotel breakfast room opens onto the sidewalk,and across the street is a beautiful garden. This could be the south of France. But no—looming over the city bowl is the 3,000-foot Table Mountain...Cape Town! My immediate plans are the Cape Winelands.
