Modifikation of the forest ecological regions of Germany with respect to the soil potential for sustainable forest management

The map of GAUER and ALDINGER from the year 2005 presents for the first time a GIS-dataset, which provides a consistant classification of landscapes from a forest ecological view for whole Germany. There have been different attempts for an aggregation of the 82 forest growth regions in order to facilitate the analysis for pedological monitorings, like BZE II, surveys and comparisons for the whole of Germany. We developed a modified classification of regions based on the system of WOLFF and BARITZ, however focussed on criteria of nutrient sustainability.
