What is a windthrow area? - Approaches to a non trivial question [German]

Heavy storms result in prominent changes even in near-nature forests. The consequences on the dynamics of biocenoeses (esp. ground vegetation and regeneration) in these areas are important for ecological, conservational and silvicultural concepts. Thus it is inevitable to define the study object properly. Wind throw areas feature very variable and heterogeneous site conditions thus resulting in different dynamic processes of the biocenoeses. Several causes for site condition diversity can be outlined, whereof micrometeorological factors are especially taken into account, as their variance affects the complete area.
