The public of the citizen as well as the public of the media can contribute to an improved position of a sector in the policy process. As media reports and public opinion could may differ in their judgement of forestry it is useful to know in which of these parts of the public communication forestry actors can get more support. Analogies and differences in the political field forestry - nature conservation are examined using a comparison of the results of a media analysis (KRUMLAND, 2003) and a citizen questioning (PAULI, 2000). The results show that forestry actors contribute more reports about forest in the media than the nature conservationist actors do. Nevertheless do, according to the perception of the population, the latter dominate the definition of forest problems (Abbildung 1). The reflection of the interest position of the helper also show that forest actors are more legitimised in the public of the media than in the public of the citizen. This leads to the conclusion that forestry actors could be successful with their political interests by using the advantageous presentation of the media.
