The spring weather in 2013 has been wild and weird. Making colony splits has been nothing short of miraculous. I've had so many late season freezes in North Central Texas, I'm surprised the queens aren't wearing mufflers and requesting hive heaters. As unlikely as it may seem, this has my most successful queen introduction spring in 15 years with 100% acceptance in a dozen splits. I know the numbers are not large, but if you compare it to my particularly dreadful summer requeening effort in 2012, when I was lucky to salvage three splits out of 15, then you'll understand my enthusiasm!
