摘要

Light and temperature are considered to be most important among various factors affecting the growth, reproduction, survival, abundance and distribution of kelps. In this article, for a better under-standing of the causes of vegetation changes detected by kelp bed monitoring, the effects of light and temperature on the productivity and vertical distribution of kelps were discussed on the basis of the data for underwater light attenuation, the growing depth limits and the photosynthetic light and temperature responses of kelps. Continuous monitoring of light and temperature is considered essential for monitor-ing the underwater vegetation.
