九州初?普及型重粒子治療施設SAGA HIMAT

摘要

Heavy ion beam therapy at HIMAC (Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba) has shown excellent results in terms of local control and survival rates. Following success of HIMAC, two facilities have begun treatment in Japan. However, all three Japanese facilities were constructed and have been operated by public sectors because construction and operation of heavy ion therapy facility requires a huge budget. In order to make more cancer patients enjoy benefits of heavy ion beams, we have constructed a heavy ion therapy facility by private bodies collaborated with public sectors. Project of SAGA Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Tosu (HIMAT) is collaboration among local governments, regional industries and universities in Kyushu. In the facility there are three treatment rooms, where first one has been equipped with horizontal and 45° oblique beam lines, second one has horizontal and vertical beam lines, and third one is for future preparation of scanning beam delivery. The maximum beam energy is 400 MeV/u and maximum beam intensity is 1.3 × 10~9 pps. The design of facility started in the spring 2009. The construction of the facility building started in February 2011 and completed in October 2012. Installations of accelerator devices started in December 2011. The facility opened in July 2013 and has started treatment in August 2013.
