The Instability of Potato Production in Brazil -Focusing on the Fluctuation of Price and Planted Area

This study analyzed an instability of potato production in Brazil focusing on the fluctuation of price and planted area to the 1980's, using statistical data on planted area, production quantity, yield and price(production value / production quantity) of four states, Minas Gerais, San Paulo, Prana and Rio Grande do Sul. The purpose of this study is (1) to survey the historical development of potato production in Brazil, (2) to analyze the progress of potato production using the data of planted area, production quantity, yield and price, focusing on the fluctuation of price and planted area in the 1980's and (3) to apply the same method to four states, Minas Gerais, San Paulo, Parana and Rio Grande do Sul. The results of this study are summarized as follows ; The potato production in Brazil during the 1980's experienced severe fluctuation of price and planted area. Potato production in Brazil during the 1980's was shown to be very unstable.
