Fuel Cells and Me

摘要

I have been involved in the field of solid oxide electrolytes/solid oxide fuel cells for nearly 50 years.My first introduction to solid oxide electrolytes was in 1965 when I started my Ph.D.studies at the University of Pennsylvania on the determination of thermodynamic properties of refractory metal alloys using electrochemical cells with yttria-stabilized thoria electrolyte.Being involved in many innovative efforts related to solid oxide fuel cells has been an exciting journey for me on an often bumpy road.In this article,I discuss the evolution of solid oxide fuel cells,the trends in SOFC research,the progress made in their application for power generation,and my role in these efforts.
