摘要

The mechanism and preventing countermeasures of "cold shut" defect on the surface of a graphite iron casting made by the horizontal controlled flow pouring process have been investigated with the help of computer simulation (Stefan 3D)~1). Foundry rejection due to such kind of defect has been greatly reduced with the optimized gate-system design based on agreements of the simulation and experiments. A semiempirical equation, correlating dimension of the horizontal runner, tilting degrees of the stack mold, upper dimensions of vertical runner and distance in-between them, was proposed as a quick guide of gating system design for this casting process.
