Aloe perdita, a long-lost species from the Chimanimani Mountains on the Zimbabwe/Mocambique border.

From the Chimanimani Mountains which form part of the boundary between Zimbabwe and Mocambique, a species of aloe is described here as new to science: Aloe perdita sp. nov. The new species most closely resembles, but differs from the small or miniature forms of Aloe swynnertonii in having leaves which are relatively longer, narrower and thicker, being lineate-attenuate not lanceolate-attenuate with much smaller teeth which are scarcely pungent, being relatively more surculose, having fewer branches per inflorescence, and having fewer-flowered racemes that are cylindric and not capitate-corymbose.
