ROUNDUP Ready alfalfa varieties are now for sale. Most seed companies that market alfalfa seed will have one or two RR varieties this winter. As with most new varieties, seed supplies will be tight. The bigger question is: Will they be useful to you?Some may find them so; more may not. So consider several pros and cons. The key is that RR alfalfas carry resistance to glyphosate products such as Roundup Weathermax. But Roundup will kill almost everything else in the field, including grasses and weeds. That's the advantage. It's also the rub because it means you can't grow grass with your alfalfa.
