Elevator and escalator systems toward the 21st century

The field of elevators and escalators has accomplished growth in line with the changes in the socialenvironment and the progress of technology in the 20th century. Plans for super-high-rise buildingsexceeding 400 m in height present challenges for technologies transcending the limits of elevatorsystems so far. At the same time, efforts are being directed to the dissemination of elevators andescalators which are gentle to people and to the creation of comfortable spaces. With the 21st century close at hand, we are facing a changing era demanding more diversifiedand highly efficient products also in the elevator and escalator field.
