The present high information society requires the stable supply of high-quality electric power. On the other hand, equipment renewal to increase capacity has reduced under recent low economic growth and there are growing needs for using existing equipment to the utmost limit of life. Under these social circumstances, it is required to improve deterioration diagnosis technology to grasp the deterioration degree of oil-immersed transformers and precisely make a decision on renewal time. This paper describes the present status of transformer deterioration diagnosis and a part of the latest diagnosis technology, life expectancy estimation using colorimetry.
