摘要

Overpack for high-level radioactive waste disposal in deep underground areas must prevent ground water contact with vitrified waste. To integrate the capability of overpack, corrosion-resistance, pressure-resistance, water tightness, air tightness and manufacturing properties should be considered. The conceptual design selected and studied these functional items. Basic specifications of overpack were discussed for carbon steel overpack and composite overpack. Titanium alloys and copper were chosen for corrosion resistance materials for the composite overpack. Experimental manufacturing tests of the full-scale composite overpack of titanium-carbon steel were carried out. This study was sponsored by Japanese ten Electric Power Companies.
