Coal-fired power plants tend to use large silos for coal storage because of the requirements forenvironment preservation and locations. Storage periods will become longer, and several types ofcoal will be used. Control of the coal temperature rise caused by oxidation at low temperature willbecome important to prevent spontaneous combustion and to retain the quality of coal. Therefore, amethod is required to predict the temperature rise. An advanced numerical simulation method hasbeen developed to investigate the changes in temperature distribution with time and location andestimate the safe storage period.
