Adverse drag events due to medication errors . are associated with increased mortality, length of stay, and cost. Studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of health information technology, specifically computerized physician order entry and clinical decision support in reducing the incidence and severity of medication errors. The Federal Government is now offering financial incentives to promote the use of computerized physician order entry and clinical decision support as a means of improving care and decreasing errors.
