A tour of Blue Diamond's plants today presents a far different scene than a year ago. Gone are the large groups of sorters, picking out foreign material and imperfect kernels from streams of nuts passing by on moving belts. Hightech machines now cleanse the product at the plant door, significantly reducing hand sorting requirements. This is just one of many changes in operations that have driven over - million dollars out of annual plant operating costs over the past 18 months. Other changes are less obvious, but just as effective in making Blue Diamond more competitive.
