Cauvin Group: a history begun in 1890

The Cauvin Group is a historical name in the distribution of metals, but perhaps not everyone knows that the business was established in Genoa in 1890, dealing with the import of fertilizers. Vittorio Cauvin, a second generation descendant of a French family which had settled in Italy in the mid nineteenth century, established a company bearing his name. From then on the company continued to grow rapidly thanks to the dynamism of Ernesto Cauvin, the founder's son, thus giving life to the diversification, initially entering the steel import business after World War and then the aluminium sector in the 1970's. Ernesto's two sons, Gian Vittorio and Max, concentrated their energies on the vertical integration of the business, investing in products stockholding, processing and distribution.
