Transmitting antenna for UHF television broadcasting consisted of patch antennas

A transmitting antenna system for television broadcasting, in generally, is consisted of some radiating panels which are equally spaced around a supporting tower. The distance to the tip of a antenna element that protrudes from the face of a tower is desired as short as possible for reasons of scenery, mechanical strength, maintenance, and so on. In this paper, it is discussed on the capability of the application of patch antennas, which is extremely low profile, to a transmitting antenna system for UHF-TV broadcasting on the standpoints of a radiation pattern and voltage standing wave ratio.
