In this paper, we proposed a vertical configuration of an antiferroelectric liquid crystal (VC-AFLC) mode which has more stable alignment than that of a helix deformed ferroelectric liquid crystal (VC-HDFLC) mode. This VC-AFLC mode has the fast response, analog gray scale capability, high contrast, and wide viewing characteristics.
