FLORIBUNDA ABUNDANCE: 100 Years of Floribundas

The Year of the Rose was 2002, but why not keep the party going? 2003 could have been celebrated as the Centennial of the Floribunda. Kitty Belendez wrote in the March 1998 SCRS Rose Ecstasy, " It is believed that the very first floribunda was Peter Lambert's 1903 cross of a polyantha named 'Mignonette' with a tea rose called 'Souv de Mme Sablayrolles', which produced a variety called 'Schneekopf." (German for Snow Head). That makes 2003 the centennial and the creation of a great rose division like floribundas should be celebrated.
