摘要

Depleting fossil fuel reserves and its significantcontribution to greenhouse gas emission have created energycrisis and environmental degradation. Therefore, it is necessaryto develop alternative fuels with a proper policy frameworkto support research and development. The potential biomassresource of India such as agricultural products, lignocellulosicwaste biomass, industrial waste, and food processingwaste has been extensively investigated by Indian researchersvia fermentative biohydrogen production. The impact of keyfactors lowering fermentative biohydrogen yield can be reducedby the intervention of recent advancement in fermentativebiohydrogen production such as combined fermentationprocess, optimized trace metal application, and pH control. Apolicy dealing with bioenergy promotion should adopt a marketpull approach to promote bioenergy as a people-friendlytechnology. The present review provides recent advances infermentative biohydrogen production process as well as practicaland policy-related barriers in way of biohydrogen energygeneration and promotion.
