Sequential memory recall in a two-layer hippocampal network model (CA1 and CA3) was investigated. The hippocampus is known to be involved in sequential memory recall. This implies that the hippocampus may store information about links between individual memories. On the other hand, propagation of neuronal activity is often observed in the hippocampus. In this study, three memory patterns were stored as steady spatial patterns of Schaffer collateral connection weight in CA1 and information about links between these patterns was given as asymmetric structure of recurrent excitatory synaptic connection weight in CA3. This asymmetric structure produced a stream of the theta-like rhythmic activity in CA3. As a result, memory patterns in CA1 were recalled sequentially by this one-way propagation of theta-like activity in CA3.
